The Embassy together with the members of the Sri Lankan community, including the students celebrated Deepavali in Beijing.
The special Deepavali message from the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security and Mass Media, Vijitha Herath was read at the event, extending wishes for Deepavali. The message highlighted that the Hindu community celebrates this auspicious event to commemorate the Day which Thiru with the help of Thirumal defeated Narakasuran, and that it is a celebration of the day which righteousness became victor over wickedness, wisdom defeated ignorance and the wealth of knowledge was established.
Welcoming all gathered at the Embassy, Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe emphasized that Deepavali celebration of the triumph of light over darkness not only holds religious significance but is also a universal message that everyone can embrace.
The Deepavali celebration with its rich cultural heritage unites all Sri Lankans living abroad which foster unity and a shared sense of humanity. Such celebrations build bridges of understanding and respect that transcend the boundaries of race, religion and culture
