The President of Sri Lanka had a bilateral meeting today with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on the sidelines of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.
The two leaders shared their views on overcoming the economic challenges faced by both countries and on the expeditious measures implemented for the economic recovery. Both sides agreed to exchanges best practices and experiences periodically on the process of economic recovery and to continue further cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The two leaders shared grave concerns about the ongoing escalation of violence and military action in Gaza which has resulted in deaths and injuries to many innocent civilians and children causing a grave humanitarian situation.
The two leaders called upon all parties to the conflict to prevent further civilian casualties and to open a humanitarian corridor to help those under siege in Gaza with essential food, water and medical supplies. They further stressed upon the necessity of achieving a political solution to the prolonged conflict in Gaza and appealed to all parties concerned to seek avenues to resolve the conflict through negotiations based on a two-state solution.
