Ambassador, Dr. Palitha Kohona, warmly welcomed the establishment of the new Center for South and South East Asian Studies at Tsinghua University at an impressive inaugural ceremony held at the University on 9 July 2022.
Delivering his congratulatory message, Dr. Kohona recalled the historical relations that China had with the countries of the two regions over the centuries. He said that the Center would contribute to the advancement of research and better understanding of the region, and enhance cooperation between China and the countries in these regions. He also emphasized that the Center would contribute to studies from an Asian perspective and a deeper understanding, which was lacking in most Western research, and this essentially reflected the Western mindset. He hoped that through the envisaged student exchanges between China and the countries of these regions, people-to-people contacts would also be further enhanced.
