The US Ambassador to China, Mr. Nicholas Burns, paid a courtesy call on the Sri Lanka Ambassador, both of whom had interacted previously, especially from 2006. They discussed, inter alia, the financial crisis in Sri Lanka, US objectives in the Indo-Pacific, the US goal of peaceful competition rather than confrontation, areas of cooperation such as climate change, other common global issues, and Dr. Kohona's suggestion of the need to avoid confrontational language and actions.
