All staff members participated at the event to mark the commencement of work for 2022. The Ambassador, Dr. Palitha Kohona, spoke on the achievements of the Mission in 2021 (securing 26 million doses of vaccines, negotiating important financial packages and obtaining commitments for significant investments). He also spoke on the action plan for 2022 which would include celebrating 65 years of diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the ground breaking Rubber – Rice Pact. He requested all staff members to work as a team and to pull together, recognizing the severe staff and financial constrains hampering the work of the Mission to achieve the goals of the Mission, in particular to assist the country to overcome its current challenges. He further said that the Mission had a crucial role to play in increasing bilateral trade, investments, and the tourism intake among others.
