The inaugural event of the Tourism Promotion Roadshows held across three cities in China hosted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in coordination with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing was held on 18th September 2026 in Beijing, China. During the event, Sri Lanka was promoted as a vibrant destination which offers a blend of rich history, 8 UNESCO heritage sites, mesmerizing landscapes, pristine beaches, dense forests, epic mountains that sets the island apart from many other travel destinations in the world inviting Chinese nationals to visit, explore and enjoy.
20 Sri Lanka Destination Management Companies, hotels together with Sri Lankan Airlines, 146 Chinese Travel agencies, tour operators, MICE players and 20 media outlets graced the event.
Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings were conducted between Sri Lankan tourism industry representatives and Chinese travel and tourism enterprises, facilitating direct engagement and the exploration of potential business partnerships for enhanced tourism exchanges. In addition, traditional Sri Lankan cultural performances showcased the country’s rich artistic heritage and vibrant traditions, offering guests an insight into Sri Lanka’s cultural diversity.
The roadshow was attended by Ms. Chandima Kiriwandala, Minister (Commercial) and Ms. Sumudu Wilpatha, Minister Counsellor and Ms. Isuri Vitharana, Second Secretary of the Embassy. Mr. Chinthaka Liyanaarachchi, Deputy Director (Marketing), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, addressing the gathering emphasized the growing demand for travel between China and Sri Lanka which would contribute to increasing people-to-people exchanges, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
The second Roadshow was held in Chongqing on 21st September 2026 followed by the third in Shenzhen, China, on 23rd September 2026.
